His Story

A Man Who Gave Without Limits

Mitchell Wayne Jackson was born on August 14, 1958 in Baker, Louisiana, to Hayford Jackson Sr. and Irene King Braxton. He gave his life to Christ early and carried that faith every day. Baker wasn’t just his city — it was his identity. A proud Baker High School graduate, he was a true multisport athlete in wrestling, football, and baseball, with the heart of a competitor who gave everything, every time.

He poured that same fire back into his community — coaching Junior League sports, including the Renegades baseball team, and remaining a faithful volunteer at his alma mater. A dedicated, hardworking man, he served as an Operator at Schuylkill (Exide), Atlas-SSI, and Capital Rubber, and as a trusted campaign manager who helped support community leaders across Baker and beyond. He was also an avid fisherman who found peace in a quiet morning and a good line cast.

For 41 years he loved his wife, Rosalie. He was a father of four, grandfather of seven, and great-grandfather of four — and “father to many” more. The biggest Dallas Cowboys fan you’d ever meet, he was known for his cowboy boots, long truck rides with the music up, dancing like nobody was watching, and feeding everyone in sight — because that was how he loved. Now this foundation carries his spirit forward.

Give in His Honor

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a scholarship fund supporting students in the City of Baker who are pursuing higher education. Because Mitchell understood something deeply: opportunity changes lives.

From the Family

A Legacy Worth Continuing

On April 4, 2026, Baker lost one of its greatest. Mitchell gave everything he had to this community — he coached its children, championed its leaders, and showed up for Baker long before anyone asked him to. He never stopped.

Now, in his honor, we’re asking Baker to show up for what he believed in most: its young people. This is not just a donation. It’s a continuation of everything Mitchell was.

Mr. Jackson was honored with a proclamation from the City of Baker and condolence letters from two Louisiana state representatives — recognition of a life lived in service.

With love and gratitude,
The Jackson Family
